Activities in the German Informatics Society and Computer Science
My GI career started in 2019 with the founding of the BYTE Challenge together with Stefan Hildebrand. This project represents a significant milestone in my career, as we were able to raise a total of over €100,000 in financial and material sponsorship as well as grants. In just two public cohorts, we have already reached over 2000 participants with our 50+ volunteer team, which underlines the reach and influence of this project.
In 2020, shortly after the launch of the BYTE Challenge, I took the speaker role in the Young GI. This went hand in hand with my admission to the Board, which allowed me to gain valuable insights into the workings of the GI groups. During my tenure on the Executive Board, I built up the “STEM Girls” event series, which established itself as a successful program and received over 350 registrations in its first year. Through these events, we were able to empower young women and non-binaries and prepare them for the demands of the professional world.
In addition, I have initiated and implemented over 33 digital events. These events took place in cooperation with renowned companies such as IBM, Huawei Germany, McKinsey & Company, Netlight, Microsoft and Github and ranged from introductory events for first-semester students to specialized events for experienced computer scientists.
Another important aspect of my involvement was the initiation of a separate conference of the Young GI and the founding of the J-GI University Group Berlin-Brandenburg. In addition, I am actively involved in other GI groups and am involved in the Digital Skills Policy Group at CEPIS.
Since January 2023, I have been leading the AK Structure, which initiates major changes throughout the GI, such as changes to the statutes or the introduction of new tools. I also support the Women in Computer Science Division.
I have successfully secured sponsorship for the GI on several occasions, including the JungeGI Conference 2022, Informatik 2022 and the Women’s Conference 2023. In addition, I help out with press work for the BYTE Challenge and the Young GI to present the GI in a positive light to the outside world.
For me, computer science is more than just a professional field. It is a space full of innovation, creativity and potential to shape and improve our society. My motivation is to make an active contribution to the advancement of computer science and to make it accessible to a wider and more diverse group of people. All of these projects, in which I have been involved and would like to continue to be involved, serve this goal and my passion to get more people interested in computer science and to communicate its benefits and opportunities.
